Planting in Estella’s front garden is restrained and it is hedges and topiary that provide interest and structure to complement the strong architecture of the Spanish Mission style house.

The design was influenced by a pair of huge existing plane trees and also the need to provide an off-street parking space. A pergola draped with a wisteria softens the area and near the front door, a courtyard with a water feature perfectly harmonises with the style of the property.

In the back garden an unwanted swimming pool has been cleverly adapted and is now lushly planted with water plants. A deck extends partly over the pond and has become a much used entertaining area made all the more pleasant with the sound of flowing water.

Pot plants and a living wall system crammed with colourful succulents add to the ambience. Beyond the pond are hedges and several large, perfectly pruned topiary cones. Roses and flowering perennials add colour but throughout the garden, plants have been carefully chosen and combined for their interesting or contrasting foliage.

There is a chook house and a vegetable garden but as well, 37 fruit trees and other productive plants are dotted among ornamentals. Beautiful dry-stone walls in both the front and back gardens have been skillfully constructed by the owner.

Size: 1200sqm.
