At last we can welcome you to the OGSA 2020 Spring Season as the SA Health Department has now allowed us to open as public gardens, avoiding the limitations of residential gardens. We will follow a Covid Safe Plan with suitable distancing.

Please check back prior to the weekend in case there has been any change in Health Department regulations.

Sheriffmuir is a beautiful romantic country garden with two acres of English style gardens and another acre of dry garden planted with Australian natives.

A fine collection of mature deciduous trees and conifers surrounds expansive lawns and create a park like effect. Meandering borders are filled with flowering shrubs and perennials but the stars of the garden are the roses - there are climbers, weepers, standards, shrub roses and minis with varieties including hybrid teas, David Austins and exquisite old heritage roses.

By contrast there are formally laid out areas where rose beds, including a 30m double border, are edged with perfectly pruned box hedges. A picturesque domed gazebo built by the owner is backed with more roses and perennials and nearby in an enclosed courtyard area, 16 very large rose-filled pots make a show stopping statement. A secret garden is planted with camellias, fuchsias and more roses; in all there are 90 camellias throughout and a large collection of hydrangeas.

In ‘Frog Hollow’ a dry pond edged with iris is surrounded by maples, dogwoods, magnolias, crepe myrtle, flowering prunus and perennials. The chooks too are surrounded by flowers; their charming rustic hen house has its own cottage garden!

Australian plants in the dry garden include banksias, flowering gums, grevilleas and proteas.

An exceptionally lovely garden full of features and bursting with spring beauty - well worth travelling a distance to see and enjoy!

Size: 3 acres; 1.2 ha.

The chosen charity for this garden is: Royal Flying Doctor Service.
