This garden will open under covid guidelines. We encourage you to bring cash as EFTPOS facilities are not always available.

The entrance to the property is along a double avenue of claret ash trees. In an elevated position, views from everywhere in the garden are of this 130acre farm, its Dowie Doole vineyards and the lovely pastoral landscape of McLaren Vale.

Walking up from the parking area, the newest garden space is encountered beside a stone wall. The planting here is low drought tolerant species that don’t compete with a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the vista. Further, a walk of crabapple trees - a mass of blossom in spring, leads to a rose garden planted in a square divided into four hedged boxes where euphorbias, verbenas, penstemons and salvias spill around a wide variety of roses.

Closer to the house, a mixture of deciduous trees including Manchurian pears, hawthorns and robinias thrive and on one side there is a swimming pool and lawned area. Around the house are a collection of decorative pots with succulents, box and a variety of flowering plants that provide colour and interest throughout the year.

Beyond is a less formally planted area nestling on the side of the hill and here a meandering path winds amongst hardy native and exotic trees and shrubs including westringia, abelia, lavender and choisya. Ground covers are water wise plants that can cope with root competition and the slope of the hill.

An elegant country garden enriched with superb views of the surrounding vineyards and the distant hills.

Extra activities: Visitors are encouraged to BYO tea, coffee or picnics and enjoy the garden; some chairs will be available.

Please note: there is a dam on the farm 200m from the garden, as well as a fenced pool. It is not suitable for prams or wheelchairs.

Size: 1.5 acres; 0.6 ha

The chosen charity is the RSL.
