ElderHood House and its terraced gardens are set in a prime position on a gentle slope overlooking Boston Island, the town jetty and the beautiful bay of Pt Lincoln. The house was built in 1906 of local Duck Pond stone and named for the original owners of the property.

As you step down from the driveway over the dry-stone creek bed there is a feeling of calm and tranquility as you enter the park-like surrounds. The lush lawn is surrounded by established trees and shrubs including bottlebrush, buddleias, jacaranda, duranta, cercis, lilly pilly, eremophilas and assorted succulents, grasses and ground covers.

Meander on towards the back garden where a shade house with ferns, begonias, hanging epiphyllums, groundcover violets and baby’s tears catches the eye. A lawn area, a fairy garden, bromeliads, ferns, hellebores and many quirky ornaments are all shaded by the spreading branches of a magnificent old pepper tree. After taking a while to sit and enjoy the views, there is still more to see down the steps to the lower garden, the fire pit area, a circular gravel path through plantings of osteospermum, salvia, echium, acanthus, cannas, succulents, frangipani, and clipped westringia balls.

There is also a memorial garden and a new stone path that takes you around the house to the other side of the front garden where it all began.

Devonshire teas and coffees will be served and funds raised will be donated to the RSL.

Extra activities: Mornng and afternoon teas will be offered.

Size: 0.75 acres; 0.3 ha.

The chosen charity for this garden is RSL.
