Frosty Flats is bright and beautiful! It is a true cottage garden full of flowers in all colours, sweet scents and a mass of varied foliage textures.
The garden wraps itself around as you wander along the web of little paths that wind between beds crammed with a vast assortment of roses, perennials, and succulents. Trees, mostly flowering varieties, provide shelter and height.
There is more than plants in this garden – a pond, birdbaths, arbours and other structures support climbing roses and clematis, pots of succulents are dotted throughout, logs are placed as seats, and several old ladders are used to hold more pots. Rusty machinery once used to run the farm rests among the foliage and flowers.
The original garden surrounded the old 1880s stone farm house but several years ago it was expanded into what was once a paddock and in the newer area, informal paths are again a feature. The beds between the paths are packed with plants particularly selected for their vibrant and colourful flowers – there are roses, alstroemeria, asters, geraniums, penstemons, cannas, salvias and buddleias. Mass-planted, they create a spectacular ‘riot of colour’!
Frosty Flats is real gardeners’ garden, a vivid visual feast that is a delight to all!
