Description

This garden will open under covid guidelines. We encourage you to bring cash as EFTPOS facilities are not always available.

Barrels of bright red geraniums and white convolvulus in front of a tall row of clipped melaleucas make a welcoming entrance to Sojourn. The precisely pruned hedges and the neat gravel driveway suggest a formal style but further into the garden the mood changes and flowers, trees and a little whimsy add colour and a relaxed feel.

The garden is on a slope and a ramp leads to a manicured lawn surrounded by photinias hedged to create a privacy screen for the front of the house. Bordering the lawn are pretty pink hebes, Bonica roses and Cocos palms. A bed of roses in autumn tones are underplanted with a display of alyssum and johnny-jump-ups.

A wall boldly painted in shades of aubergine and pale green shows off an ‘umbrella’ of jasmine, nandinas, climbing Gold Bunny roses, pelargoniums and succulents.

The lower park-like part of the garden is planted with a variety of trees - a standout is a beautiful native frangipani. Fruit trees include a 90-year-old mulberry believed to have been planted in the days when the property was a nursery. As well, there are clipped duranta hedges, standard robinias, huge pittosporums, a fern house clothed in sweet peas, succulents and annuals.

The name Sojourn means ‘linger’, so stay awhile and enjoy refreshments as you take in the garden and the lovely views of the coast from the front and the gully from the back garden.

Extra activities: morning and afternoon teas.

Please note: this garden has steep slopes, with multiple ramps and sturdy steps.

Size: 0.8 acres, 03. ha.

The charity for this garden is: Royal Flying Doctor Service.
